UE_Research area.

The focus of the research by UE Ghana group will be on the flooding areas in Ghana. The flooding results in destroyed human life and property and exposes residents to health and environmental hazards.
The first area which will be researched is Accra. Accra is the capital city of Ghana and experience seasonal floods almost every year. The major causes of the flooding in this area are widespread rains of the May-July wet season, Accra's low elevation, the
clay soil, inadequate and undersized drains, the dumping of refuse into drains and water bodies, and the development of environmentally sensitive areas.
The other area which will be researched is the north part of Ghana which also suffer from seasonal floods. The flooding of the White Volta river and the Black Volta river flood are caused from two sides. On the one hand comes there during the raining season a big amount of water from the Volta lake, which is created by the
Akosombo dam. On the other hand is there water coming from spilling of the Bagre and Kompienga dams in Burkina Faso, during excessive rainfall.
